UNINVITED GUEST

I walked out the back door one morning to find this.
It is one of the largest snappers I have seen in this
area.  It no doubt came up to rob cat food or something.

Do you see that small hole in it's head just above the
eyes?  It lost a lot of blood through that hole.  Well, it
was close enough it would have been hard to miss.

What surprised me was the way it would keep going
even after loosing nearly all it's blood.  You can shoot
these things.  But don't get close to them until you are
sure they are dead.

THE WELCOMING COMMITTEE

One morning I went out the back door to find this
snapping turtle as a welcoming committee for me.

Now snapping turtles are not welcome on this property.
As you can imagine, it had a total disregard for our opinion
on the matter.  So I had to make my point by carefully
placing a small hole in it's head in the area of it's brain,
that is, if they have one.

But, even after this it insisted on hanging around for a
while.  Snapping turtles simply do not catch on very
quickly.
